Cool November
With the notorious New York City heating regulations, finding the perfect temperature in one’s apartment during the winter can be a difficult task. I began a wasteful habit of running my air conditioner to cool my unit as I could not adjust the heat. This made me question, how much was I running the air conditioner over the course of a month? How wasteful is this habit?
RESEARCH & DATA
I collected the data for this project using a Particle Temperature Sensor. The data was written to a PostgreSQL database.
OUTPUT
This visualization records the average hourly temperature of my apartment over the course of a month, and highlights when the air conditioner was running. The nuances in the air conditioner data showcase key findings about this wasteful habit, such as, the average time running the air conditioner was 9.785 hours per day. Tools utilized for this project were CSS, EC2, D3, Express, Handlebars, HTML, JavaScript, Node, Particle Sensor, and PostgreSQL. This project is no longer live hosted on EC2, however further documentation can be found on GitHub.
